1 John 5; Ezra 3-4; Psalm 92

 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:12-13 NKJV)

When it comes to spiritual matters, especially our ultimate destination, most people live with uncertainty. If you were to ask people if they were going to heaven, most would probably respond by noting that they hoped they would. John makes it clear in this section that you can know for sure and he sets the parameters. If you have the Son, if you have a relationship with Jesus Christ through faith, you can know that you have eternal life. On the other hand, if you don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ, you don’t have eternal life. Notice that when John said, “He who has the Son has life” he didn’t mention anything like “He who has the Son and goes to church,” or “He who has the Son and makes large donations to any ministry.” He who has the Son has life and you can know it for sure and be encouraged as you continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 

It’s hard to live with uncertainty. Imagine working on a job and not knowing if and when your boss was going to pay you. There are a lot of people in marriages who aren’t sure that their spouse loves them. I can’t imagine living that way. Now imagine how many people are living in uncertainty of their eternal life. They don’t know or understand that God loves them. They don’t know or understand that God provided a way for them not only to be with Him forever, but to know that they would be with Him forever. If that concern applies to you, please understand that if you have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, John would say that you can know you’ll be with God forever. On the other hand, if you already know that you have eternal life with God, doesn’t it make you want to share that joy with others? Take the time to share with one person how they can know that they have eternal life. Spread the joy of Jesus with just one person today. Imagine how the world would change if each Christian share that joy with one other person. 

Lord, thank You for the gift of eternal life. Thank You that i can know and be certain that I have that gift of eternal life. Help me share the joy I have with others so that they can know that same joy. .
