Ok, now I’m three days behind….
Revelation 10; Nehemiah 13; Psalm 104:24-35
One of my hobbies is photography. I especially enjoy taking pictures of birds. The amazing variety of birds boggles my mind. There are huge birds with wingspans twice my size and small birds that I could hold in my hand. Some birds eat insects, others eat seeds, some eat fish, and some eat whatever meat is available. The colors of the different birds are outstanding also.
I thought of this as I read this morning. “How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” (Psalm 104:24) When you think about the variety among birds and then multiply them but other groups of our animal kingdom how can we do anything but be amazed at the glory and grandeur of God’s creation. Then, we can get started on the plant kingdom. And then we can look at the beauty and glory of the earth itself. When you think of it, how is it that we are not praising God continuously for His creation?
At the same time, I am reminded that the crown of creation; the shining jewel of all that God did, was the creation of man. We are a mess. We forget God. We turn against God. We do all the things we know we shouldn’t do, and yet God still called His creation of man very good. In fact, He loved His creation of mankind so much, that He provided a way for us to have the messes of our lives cleaned up.
The death of Jesus on the cross opened again the door of fellowship with God. We had closed it with our sin, but God opened the door so that we might be right with Him again. It is not our own doing that brings us back into our relationship with God, it is all His work. Just as God created man without help from us, He re-created us through the death, burial, and resurrection of His Son. All we need do is accept His love.
Lord God, we see Your presence in the beauty of creation. We are reminded of Your grace in the amazing story of Your re-creation of mankind through Jesus Christ. May we all seek Your love and grace through Him.
