Romans 4; 1 Samuel 13; Psalm 58
What does it mean to live in grace? What does it mean to be a person that follows Jesus? Paul quoted David’s words and they present a perfect picture. “Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.” (Romans 4:7-8) We who follow Jesus and walk in grace are blessed. Living a blessed life is something you receive – it comes from God. I can’t set out each day and say, I’m going to live a blessed life. We are blessed by God. I am blessed not because of my so-called goodness, my activities, or any of the other reasons that people give as a way to “earn” blessings. (If you earn it, it’s what is due; it’s not a blessing.) I am blessed because God who is merciful and gracious doesn’t count my sins against me; they are covered by the blood of Jesus. That doesn’t make me a good person, or even a “better” person than someone else; that makes my relationship right with God. When my relationship is right with God, then I can do good works that are meaningful; then I can do a better job of working with people; then I can become a better person than I was. That which is good in me, is a gift, a blessing that comes from the grace of God. Pray that I might receive more grace that I might follow Him more closely and become more useful in His kingdom.
Lord God, I am so grateful that my sins are covered and that You don’t count them against me. I know that this is totally Your grace and that I’ve done nothing to earn that grace. I thank You for Your grace. Give me more grace each day to become more useful in Your kingdom each day.
