January 8 – God’s World

Luke 9:1-27; Genesis 15; Psalm 8

I love watching birds. I see the wide variety of birds and the different ways they live and all I can think of is the amazing creative power of God. I look at this world around me and see His beautiful design set in motion and marvel at His amazing power. David said the same thing. “When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place— (Psalm 8:3)” He continued by marveling at the idea that God loved and trusted mankind enough to put him in charge of all creation. It is an amazing responsibility. It is a responsibility that we have not always carried out well. We live in an amazing, miraculous world created by God. He has entrusted us to care for it and we must take that responsibility seriously. How can we help keep this magnificent world beautiful in response to God’s trust?

Lord, thank You for our amazing world. I continue to be in awe as I think not only of the beauty of Your creation, but also the idea that You have entrusted me to help care for it. Help me to care for Your world in such a way that others recognize the beauty of Your creation.
