1 Timothy 2; Isaiah 34-35; Psalm 119:65-96
When you look at the news, it’s hard to believe that God really cares sometimes. We see His people coming under attack around the world. His people are being killed because they believe in the saving power of Jesus Christ and refuse to bow down to false gods. As a current hit song begins: “In these days of desperation; when all we know is doubt and fear….” How easy it would be to give in to doubt and fear if we based all we know on the news. But we have an ancient “newspaper” that understands what’s happening around the world better than all the pundits today combined. Isaiah describes the situation perfectly: “Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.’” (Isaiah 35:4) We believe. We believe! If you are living in fear have this hope in you. Our salvation is in God who will come and rescue us. Our God will pay back those who would harm His people with divine retribution. How much better it would be if the oppressors would turn to Jesus Christ. There is the hope of salvation for those who turn from their deluded religious beliefs and follow Jesus Christ. But those who refuse; those who continue to attack and kill God’s people will face God Himself. He will fight out battles for us. Our God will save us. No matter if it be in life or through the valley of the Shadow of Death, He will come and save us. That hope; that assurance helps us follow Jesus no matter what the circumstances may be. We can live in God’s strength. We need not be afraid!
Dear Lord, how easy it is to let the circumstances of the world dictate my feelings. Help me to focus on You no matter what the situation may be. Don’t let me live in doubt and fear, but remind me of Your presence and Your promises each and every day.
