Revelation 5; Nehemiah 7:5-8:12; Psalm 100
Worship begins with a recognition of who God is. We show that we know that He is worthy of our praise and adulation for being God: the Creator, the Sustainer, the Redeemer. It continues as we recognize what He has done to gain these titles. John experienced the joy of worship in Heaven in his vision as he saw the residents of heaven worship Jesus for sacrificing His life to make salvation possible for all people. “Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!’ And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: ‘Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!’” (Revelation 5:11-13) Imagine the joy of such and experience! Imagine the volume! Some of my greatest worship experiences have come in the midst of large crowds of people who joyfully sang and worshiped the true and living God together. Worship happens with others as we gather together to recognize what God has done for us. Yes, you can have those “private” moments of worship, but if you never gather with God’s people to sing and to shout your praises you have missed out on the greatest joy you can have. Worship builds and grows as we gather together with God’s people and share how God has blessed us. At the same time, when we share our problems with our brothers and sisters, worship continues because we recognize that God Himself will be dealing with those issues. In truth, there is no greater reason to worship than to recognize God for who He is. As we celebrate all He has done for His people, it just adds that much more to the worship experience. Today, experience the full joy of walking with God as you experience worship with His people.
Lord God, I do worship You! You are the Creator who brought us life. You are the Redeemer who restored relationships broken by sin. You are the Sustainer who keeps us going every day. Give me the privilege of worshiping You with Your people today and every day.
