July 6 – Right Here! Right Now!

Mark 13:14-37; 1 Kings 7; Hosea 9:1-16

Many of us wait until the last minute to get things done. Are you that way? It must be a part of human nature to wait until something absolutely needs to be done. Perhaps that’s why we have such a fascination with the end times. If we knew when Jesus was coming, then we could wait until a month, or maybe even a week before He came before we started sharing Jesus with others. If we knew that time that He was coming, there is no doubt that our pleas towards those who need to restore their relationship to God would be more earnest and more believable. It’s to people like us that Jesus says, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.” (Mark 13:32-33) Rats! Try as hard as we might to find that exact day, it won’t happen. We are responsible for sharing the love of Jesus with people each day. We are responsible for showing friends, neighbors, relatives and even complete strangers how to develop a relationship with God through Jesus Christ now because we don’t know when Jesus is returning – and, to be blunt, we don’t know when our last day on earth will be. Jesus commands us now to watch and pray for that time; Jesus commands us to go and share the good news to the world. The only “right time” to do that is now.

Lord, it would be so easy for me to know exactly when You were returning so that I could plan the right time to talk to others. Unfortunately for me, You don’t work that way. Encourage me and inspire me to share Your love with others today. Help me to show others the joy of a restored relationship with You right now.
